Curtis Sparks Fretwell, 95, went to be with his Lord on Monday, March 17, 2025, at the Penn Nursing Center.

A Graveside Service with Military Rites will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Dennis Chapmon officiating. The family will see friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Citty Funeral Home prior to the service. There will be a time of fellowship following the graveside service at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church.

A native of Caswell Co., he was a son of the late Thomas Edward and Mary Edna Sparks
Fretwell and he had lived in Rockingham Co. most of his life. Curtis was a graduate of Elon, a former employee of Singer Sewing Machine Co. and the owner of Georgetown Woodstoves. He was a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, a US Army veteran of the Korean War, a member and former Commander of the American Legion Post and a member of the VFW. Curtis was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers: Thomas Fretwell (who died in WWII), Zeb Fretwell, and Sam Fretwell and by 2 sisters: Sunshine Hill and Mary Hill.

He is survived by his wife: Sybil Talley Fretwell of the home, son: James Curtis Fretwell (Terri) of Angier, his daughters: Karen F. Dean of Raleigh and Kathy F. Ross (Robert) of Raleigh, his sister: Betty Ann Roberts of Greensboro, his grandchildren: Amanda
Blemker (Michael), James K. Fretwell, Anna F. Hamlett (Adam), Justin Ward (Claire), Jonathan Ward (Kayla), Jason Ward, and Tripp Ross, 15 great grandchildren.

The family asks that memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America 322 8th Ave, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001. The family would also like to thank the staff of Penn Nursing Center for the care they provided during Curtis’s 2 year stay with them.

Citty Funeral Home is assisting the Fretwell family.
