Obituary: COLONEL ANDREW JONES

By | Published | No Comments

Our beloved daddy, Colonel Andrew Jones, 88, took his first breath in heaven on Saturday, December 9, 2023. For the first time in 82 years, he was able to see clearly with both eyes the beauty and glory of his savior and his sweet wife of 59 years, Grace, who has been waiting his arrival for 10 years.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 11am at Boone & Cooke Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Glenn’s Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11am, 1 hour prior to the service at Boone & Cooke Funeral Home Chapel and other times at the residence.

Dad was born in Spray (now Eden) on November 17, 1935, the son of Frank Mebane Jones and Ada Eastridge Jones, both deceased. He was a pipe fitter, a plumber and an all-around “Jack of all trades”. He retired from Rockingham County School Maintenance Department. He was well known for his wooden ink pens and pens made from rifle shells. Anytime he met a veteran or a law enforcement officer, he gifted them with a pen he made. He was of the Holiness faith and raised us to love God and to help others.

He is survived by his daughter, Donna Howell of Eden; his son, Chris Jones and wife, Amber of Eden; his sister, Ethel Presnell-Michael; his grandchildren, Josh Clark, Tiffany Clark and fiancé, Ben, Kennon Jones and Kolton Jones; great grandchildren, Madison Boyte and fiancé, Derick, Jaycob Boyte and Jackson Boyte; great-great grandchild, Derrick Massie III; numerous nieces and nephews and special friend, “son” Alan Atkins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by our mom, Grace; his sisters, Albertine Love and Mildred Howell; his great grandchild, James Boyte III and his son in law, Keith Howell.

The family would like to thank the staff of UNC-Chapel Hill Burn Unit, the Palliative Care Team, Chaplin, Mandy Mizelle and the entire staff of Gibson House Hospice Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations be made to Brenner Children’s Hospital in honor of Kolton Jones (our cancer surviving hero) and Jackson Boyte (our micro – preemie hero).

This is not “Goodbye”. daddy, but we will meet you at the pearly gates next to the streets of gold!
