Obituary: COLLEEN GOAD DUNCAN

Colleen Goad Duncan, 86, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 18, 2023.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2023 at True Gospel Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Manuel and Pastor Mark Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday at the church and all other times at her residence. Mrs. Duncan will lie in state beginning at 10 a.m. until the funeral hour on Friday at True Gospel Baptist Church.

Mrs. Duncan was born on May 2, 1936 in Rockingham County to the late James Saunders Goad and Eulala Emma Law Goad. She worked as a seamstress with Blue Bell for years and for the remainder of her working career she enjoyed serving the students in the cafeteria of New Vision School. Colleen had been a member of True Gospel Baptist Church since 1967 and served her Lord faithfully there by teaching Sunday School and singing in the church choir. She will be fondly remembered for her love of flowers and gardening, as well as being a talented cook. Her passionate love for her Lord Jesus and her family will forever be cherished.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elliott “Cooton” Duncan; daughter, Donna Duncan Richardson and brother, Carl Goad.

Survivors include her children, Kay D. Newsom (Bill), Deborah D. Bullins (Gary), Elliott “Lanny” Duncan (Kathy) and Jay Duncan; grandchildren, Kelly Stamper, Anna Readling (Joseph), Sarah Herbert (Tyler), Randy Richardson (Danna), Shane Richardson, Brandi Duncan, Faith Duncan and Dylan Duncan; great-grandchildren, James Stamper, Jaden Stamper, Hadassah Readling, Moriah Readling, Tobias Readling, Brayden Herbert, Sawyer Herbert, Jedidiah Herbert, Cheyenne Muni (Alex), Trey Richardson, Austin Richardson and Cainan Richardson; great-great-grandchild, Emily Kay Muni; sister, Carolyn “Pat” Goad Frye and her special, lifelong friend, Shirley Bailes.

The family wishes to thank Tonya Robertson for the special and attentive care she provided.
