Obituary: CLYDE THOMAS GIBSON, JR































































Clyde Thomas “J.R.” Gibson, Jr, 75, left this earthly life Sunday December 17, 2023, at home after declining health surrounded by his loved ones.

J. R. was a life-long resident of Stokes County. He retired from Allied Systems (Motor Convoy) as a car hauler. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, rabbit hunting with his son, grandchildren, and hunting buddies. He was an avid Nascar collector. His pride and joy was spending time with his loved ones.

He was preceded in death by parents Clyde Thomas Gibson, Sr. and Nannie Myrtle George; his siblings: Wanda Gibson, Carolyn Neill, Myrtle G. Golden, Dorothy Heath, Reed “Buddy” Gibson, and Ricky Gibson.

Survivors include: his wife of fifty-three years Dora East Gibson, son Jody Gibson, Sr. (Karen); daughter Terri Gibson Sweatt; five grandchildren Bradley Sweatt (Shelby), Jacob Sweatt (Katie) , Josh Gibson, Thomas Gibson, and Kerri Clemmons (Daniel); three great-grandchildren Caroline Sweatt, Owen Sweatt, Charles Clemmons, and anxiously awaiting the arrival of Sadie Beulah Sweatt. Also left to treasure his memory are sisters Robin Moore, Tammy Kendrick (Perry), Vonda Hardy (Barry), his goddaughter Vicky Wilson, his close friend David Brown, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends that he loved dearly.

The family will receive family and friends at the daughter’s residence.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and will be posted on Colonial Funeral Home’s website.

The family would like to recognize all the outstanding caretakers and staff of Novant Health seventh floor and Trellis Supportive Care.
