Obituary: CLYDE BENJAMIN VERNON

Clyde Benjamin Vernon, 92, left this earthly life on Saturday, August 20, 2022 with his family by his side.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Mayodan Municipal Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home and all other times at the residence.

Mr. Vernon was born on March 6, 1930 in Stokes County to the late Lester Weldon Vernon and Clemmie Beatrice Wilkins Vernon. He served his country honorably in the United States Army and was a member of Woodbine Baptist Church, where he once served as Sunday School teacher and deacon. Clyde also served in those same capacities when he was a member of Good News Baptist Church. He was employed with Fuzzy’s BBQ for many years as a driver, as well as other employers such as Washington Mills and Merita Bread. He was a dedicated Tar Heel fan and will always be remembered for the love he had for his Lord and family.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Christine Evans and Louise Clemmons and half-brother, Weldon Vernon.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Kitty Still Vernon; son, Mark Vernon (Annette); daughter, Cathy Nelson (Randy); grandchildren, Matthew Nelson (Amiee), Leigh Nelson, Amber Nelson, Michael Vernon and Michelle Duncan (Tyler) and nine great-grandchildren.

Colonial Funeral Home in Madison is serving the family.
