Christopher Andrew Austin, 58, died unexpectedly on Thursday, September 19, 2024.

A time of sharing and visitation will begin at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. A celebration of life service will follow at 6 p.m.

Chris was born to Lois Jane and Robert Rex Austin on August 23, 1966. He was born in the town of Whitby, York, England. Chris worked many places after coming to the United States in 1990. He had dual citizenship due to his mother being born in Pennsylvania. He was employed by AMP/Tyco, Miller Coors with many he loved dearly and as of late worked for Duke Energy, Belews Creek. He considered each and every one of the men there to be a brother. Every day would be a day of stories from his co-workers that were all priceless. He lived to help others and give his gift of selflessness to others. He is well known for his whistling and smiling face. He never had one negative thing to say, never complained.

Chris was totally in love with this wife, Marie Austin, who he married on October 23, 1997 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. They had dated for three years previously. They built their dream home together and was blessed enough to travel the world. His special name for her was “Mouse” and for him was “Gopher.” If any other name was mentioned, they knew they were in trouble. Chris loved his in-laws dearly and thought of them as his own. Lawrence and Betty Wilson were very special to him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rex Robert Austin and his mother, Lois Jane McKinney Austin.

He is survived by his wife and soulmate, Marie of Stokesdale; his children, Robert Austin (Beth), Daniel Austin (Judi), both of England and Lawrence Webster Smith and Clint “Junior” Smith, both of Stokesdale; his grandchildren, Eli and Ezra of England; siblings, Robert Austin of Kernersville, Jane Austin (Michael) of Raleigh, Carole Ann Sawkins of England and Richard Austin of England; special niece, Saydie O’Donnell (Jed) of England and many nieces and nephews.

He would want a special thank you to his brothers at Duke Energy, who helped make his life happy and a special thank you to Derek Hooker and Tony Gray. Life is precious and even more with people who love you.
