Charles Gray McCollum, 84, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 1, 2023.

A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

A native of Rockingham Co., he was a son of the late Oscar Gray and Garnet Walker McCollum and he had lived in Reidsville all of his life. Charles was a graduate of Reidsville High School, Class of 1957, and a graduate of North Carolina State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a retired engineer with American Tobacco Co. where he had been employed for 33 years. Charles was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he had served as a deacon, a life member of The Society of Mechanical Engineers, a past member of the North Carolina Society of Professional Engineers, the Rockingham County Board of Health, the board of directors of the Reidsville and Vicinity Free Clinic, and a North Carolina Army National Guard veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister: Susan M. Tingen and his sister-in-law: Judy McCollum.

Surviving is his wife of 62 years: Terry Key McCollum of the home, son: Mitchell Gray McCollum (Jennifer) of Greensboro, brothers: John McCollum (Sandra) of Reidsville, Hal McCollum (Anne) of China Grove, Nathan McCollum (Theresa) of Reidsville, Alvin McCollum (Terry) of Wilmington, brothers-in-law: Stephen Key of Birmingham, AL and Mark Tingen of Fayetteville, many loving nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.
