Charles David Popper, 79, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2024, in Greensboro. He was surrounded by his loved ones after a brief battle with cancer.

A graveside service will be held at 10 am Monday, August 19, 2024, at the Salisbury National Cemetery.

Charles was born on January 10, 1945, to Virginia Newman Popper and Harold Popper in Richmond, Virginia. He was an Air Force veteran and a retired Lorillard employee. He was unique and loved by many for his generous gifts, milestone reminders via cards, texts and calls, and his love of animals. He was a philatelist with an extensive worldly stamp collection and a frequent finder of hidden gems while antiquing. Once he became a Great Uncle, we fondly referred to him as GUC – Great Uncle Charlie. He will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his sister, Leah Popper Strulson and husband Barry (Apex, NC), his brother, Sigmund Popper and wife Mary (Prairie Ridge, KS), his nieces, Rebecca Haine and husband David (Richmond, VA), Rachel Braynin and husband Daniel (Apex, NC), and Sarah Detrano (Apex, NC). He also leaves behind six wonderful grand nieces and nephews, Jacob Haine (Richmond, VA), Hannah Haine (Washington, DC), Gabriella Detrano (Apex, NC), Noah Haine (Richmond, VA), Benjamin and Victoria Braynin (Apex, NC).

Boone & Cooke, Inc. Funeral Home is serving the family.
