Charles Arthur Walker, 88, of Eden, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2023, at Moses Cone Hospital.
In celebration of Charles’ life, the family will receive guests at Leaksville Lodge, 419 Thompson St. Eden on Sunday, October 22, 2023 from 2pm until 5pm.
A native of Rockingham County, Charles was born in Draper on April 25, 1935, to the late Ira Dewey Walker and Mertie Haynes Walker. He served his country in the United States Navy. After his military service, he would go on to work for Miller Brewing Company as a machinist until his retirement. Charles was very active in Masonry. He was a Master Mason and was a member and Past Master of Leaksville Masonic Lodge #136 A.F. & A.M., as well as an honorary member of Dan River Masonic Lodge #129 A.F. & A.M. He took great pride in the fact that he had coached many brothers over the years. Charles enjoyed being outdoors, working in his yard and his garden, going fishing, and feeding the birds.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Gatewood Walker; his first wife, Roberta Barker Walker; siblings, Lucy Clark, Thelma Watts, Vivian Joyce, and Kenneth Walker.
He is survived by his children, Mike Walker and wife Sandra, Cathy Walker and friend Lee Roy Lemons, Billy Griffin and wife Angie, Bobby Griffin and wife Velvet; grandchildren, Amy Walker, Amber Walker, John Griffin, and Tracy Griffin; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 nieces, and 1 nephew; as well as special friends, Dr. Mike Haines and wife Jane.
