Obituary: CARLEEN EASTER HUNDLEY

On February 11, 2024, Carleen Easter Hundley of Stoneville NC, peacefully slept her way into heaven. There she was met by her loving husband of 68 years and her Lord and Savior. Born on January 17,1936 she had just celebrated her 88th birthday with her family at Jacobs Creek Nursing Facility, where she was tended to by an amazing staff until her final days.

Known to most as Nanny, she was the community babysitter for friends and family. She not only raised her own children, but kept dozens of nieces, nephews and grandchildren so parents could continue to work knowing their children were in a loving home. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, nanny and homemaker of the Christian faith. Outside of her family, Carleen enjoyed camping and working in her yard in her younger days, but more recently she enjoyed watching preaching on TV, Walker Texas Ranger and anything Elvis Presley.

Apart from her husband Jimmy Hundley Sr, Carleen was preceded in death by both of her parents, Dave Wesley Easter and Caroline Gray. She was the last survivor of their 12 children, having 8 brothers and 3 sisters waiting for her arrival.

Left to cherish decades of memories are her 2 daughters, Sheila Wenzel(Robert) and Teresa Hundley (Terry Tilley); 2 sons, Jimmy Hundley Jr. and Chad Hundley (Lisa); 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and 1 more on the way. She will also be missed by lifetime sisters-in-law, Althea Fulcher and Judy Watkins, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

At her request, a private family service will be held Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Colonial Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at the home of her son, Chad at 861 Comer Rd, Stoneville,NC. Please feel free to visit other evenings after 5 p.m.

Those wishing to memorialize Carleen, please consider donating to your local nursing facility. Their biggest need is time. Carleen never met a stranger, so if you could walk into a nursing facility, help a nurse feed a patient or a patient put on their socks, just put a smile on a resident’s face by taking the time to talk, that would be a true blessing in her name. If you don’t have the extra time, we understand, please make monetary contributions to Ancora Care (formally Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375).

Colonial Funeral Home in Madison is serving the family.

Condolences may be offered to the family at www.colonialfh.net
