Carl Ray Joyce, 80, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2023, at Moses Cone Hospital.
An 11:00 a.m. memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Mayodan with Pastor Torrey Easler officiating. Inurnment will follow at a later date. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
Ray was born in Rockingham County to the late Paul Taylor and Nannie Louise Shepard Joyce. He was retired from Sears/Kmart Distribution Center with many years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mayodan where he ran the sound system for many years. Ray proudly served his country in the US Army as a Military Policeman. He was also a Ham operator for many years and was a weather spotter for several news stations. He was a Boy Scout leader with Troop 114 in Greensboro. Above all else he loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by a grandson, Joseph Woods; mother-in-law, Jacquelyn Childress; brother-in-law, Joseph Robinson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Brenda Robinson Joyce; three children, Sandy Yeatts, Janet Harrison (Tony) and Ronald Athey (Laurie); five grandchildren, Jamie Woods, Jessica Woods, Trevor Harrison (Melody), Hannah Athey and Noah Athey and six great-grandchildren; brother, Billy Joyce (Michele) and his cats, Harrison and Heidi.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Mayodan, 101 S. 1st Avenue, Mayodan, NC 27027.
