Obituary: CALVIN ODELL JONES

Calvin Odell Jones (88) went to be with his Lord on Saturday, March 18, 2023. He was born on July 31, 1934 to the late Jessie and Walter Jones of Rockingham County, NC. As a child they moved to Brown Summit and lived happily on the Beville farm.

Calvin had many occupations over the years, but he was best known as the owner/operator for 35 years of Jones and Ross Well Drilling. One of his greatest pleasures was cooking Brunswick stew for many churches and organizations. He also served on the cannon crew of the 40th NC troops Patterson’s Battery CSA. He was the past state commander and chapter commander of the MOSB and SCV historical societies.

He was survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Virginia Parks Jones and his children Rachel Shively (David) and Ryan Jones (Charity) of Ferrum, Virginia; Robert Jones (Beth) and Rosalind Wassen (Charles) of Greensboro; Ruth Ann Hood (John) and Rebecca Hudson (Keith) of Brown Summit; and Randell Jones (Donna) of Oak Island. His bother Clyde Jones (Mary) of Greensboro. He was the loving grandfather and step grandfather of 17 and the great grandfather of 25 children.

He was preceded in death by sisters Iva Williams, Helen Hanks, and Alice Ross; brothers Winfred and Roy; nephew Ricky Hanks; and son-in- law David Long.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Wilkerson Funeral Home, 1909 Richardson Dr., Reidsville, NC, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. The funeral will take place on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 1:00pm also at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Following the funeral there will be Fraternal Military Honors at 1121 Flat Rock Rd., Reidsville, NC. The burial will immediately follow at Friendship UMC, 5222 NC 150, Browns Summit, NC.
