Calvin “Eugene” Nelson, 61, passed away unexpectedly while working in Mission Viejo, CA due to unknown cardiovascular disease.
Eugene was born to Virginia Ann and Calvin Thomas Nelson on March 30th, 1963, in Stokes County, where he made his permanent home. After his lengthy career as a tobacco farmer and farrier, he embarked on a new career as a generator technician with the emergency management system for T-Mobile and disaster recovery for Infinity. He made many friends with his co-workers while traveling throughout California, and deployed to multiple states throughout the US. He was well thought of and will be deeply missed. He was an extraordinarily hard worker, at home and at work, in addition to helping out others when he knew of a need. His ingenuity and vast knowledge led him to be able to handle just about anything he tackled.
Eugene’s love and protectiveness towards his loved ones was intense and undeniable. The comparison of a mother bears protectiveness pales in comparison to Eugene’s protectiveness towards his loved ones. His ever present sense of humor and ability to talk with anyone about anything many times turned strangers into friends. He truly was one of a kind.
Eugene was preceded in death by his son, CJ Nelson in 2010, his mother Virginia Nelson, sisters Penny Palacios, Judy Starling, Ginny Nelson, and brother Randy Nelson.
Surviving are his father, Calvin Thomas Nelson (Linda), his lifetime love and partner, Teresa Brookshire, and beloved grandchildren Victoria Witherspoon and Dane Beck, stepdaughter Amelia Oakley, brother Ricky (Annette) Gentry, and sister Ruby (Tiny) Gentry Rorer. His nieces and nephews, Jesus “Rudy” Chavez, Miguel Chavez, Rebecca Chavez, Ana (Cody) Chavez, and Rosa Palacios share in this tremendous loss, as well as the many extended family members.
Immediately following the chapel service and throughout the afternoon, family, friends and loved ones will be received at his and Teresa’s home on Phillips Rd., Sandy Ridge, NC to share memories, fellowship and refreshments. After cremation, Eugene will be resting beside his son at Wilson Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel in Sandy Ridge is serving the family.
