Brenda Ann Brown Dixon, 78, of Browns Summit, NC, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025, at Trinity Elms in Forsyth County, following a courageous battle with dementia. She was born on January 27, 1946, in Wayne County, NC, to the late Johnnie Barden Brown and Annie Pearl Thompson Brown, formerly of Smithfield, NC. Brenda graduated from Wilson Mills High School and attended Pembroke State College.
Brenda is survived by her children: Kim Wood (Kirk), Melanie Nunn (Robbie), and Bryan Dixon (Meredith); her grandchildren: Brett Wood, Nate Wood, Malia Nunn, Bo Nunn, and Milo Dixon; as well as many other loving relatives. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Wayne Dixon; her parents; her brothers, Wayne and Danny Brown; stepbrothers Bill and Ronnie Olive; and stepsisters Betty Lee Ellis and Cathy Daniels.
Brenda dedicated over 35 years of her life to children, first as a kindergarten teacher at Hester’s Creative Day School and later as a preschool teacher and the owner of Dixon’s Childcare Centre, where she lovingly nurtured and cared for countless children. She was especially proud of her bond with her grandchildren and cherished the time spent playing with them.
Though dementia gradually affected her memory, Brenda’s loving spirit and awareness of those around her remained strong. We find comfort in knowing that now, in the presence of the Lord whom she loved, her mind is restored, and she is at peace.
A lifelong member of her church, Brenda never wavered in her love for Jesus or her husband, Don. She continued to share her faith and love for Christ with others, whether caregivers, medical staff, or visitors. Her deep love for family and friends was a testament to all who knew her.
The family is deeply grateful for the care provided by Brenda’s many caregivers over the years, as well as the staff of Trinity Elms during her final days.
Brenda will be deeply missed by her family and all those whose lives were touched by her love, faith, and grace. We rejoice that she is now with her Lord and reunited with Dad and her family. We look forward to our one-day reunion with them in Heaven.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation in Brenda’s memory to Senior Services of Winston-Salem, a 501(c)(3) registered charity, or to a charity of your choice in her honor.
