Bonnie Newman Almond, 75, departed this earthly life, Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Stokesdale.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2023, at the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Randy Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Mrs. Almond was born June 16, 1948, in Forsyth County, to the late Claude Newman and Peggy Newman. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Bonnie was a graduate of South Stokes High School and attended Rockingham Community College. She retired from Duke Energy as a dispatcher. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Bonnie was an avid Rook player and bowler. She loved attending Blue Grass Festivals, trips to Myrtle Beach, and traveling with Bonnie Joyce on her many bus trips. Sitting on the beach under the umbrella with snacks by her side was the epitome of a “good” vacation.

In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hugh Edward Almond, Jr.; brother Winford Newman and sister, Beverly Newman Sizemore.

Survivors include daughters, Angela “Christie” Almond Moretz (Terry) and Melissa Almond Denton (Doug); grandsons, Jacob Austin Vickers and Samuel Edward Moretz; brothers, Johnny Newman (Mary) and Norris Newman (Teresa); sister, Jo Newman Holbrook and special niece, Kelly Sizemore. Lynn Smith, Janet Cook, and Melanie Light are friends left to cherish Bonnie’s memory.

Honoring Bonnie’s love of animals, please make donations to Friends of the Stokes Shelter, 1111 Dodgetown Road, Walnut Cove, NC 27052.

Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel in Sandy Ridge is serving the family.
