Betty Sue Smith Griffin, 91, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 8, 2024, in Rustburg, VA.
A native of Abbeville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Roy Robert and Anna Pruitt Smith and lived in Reidsville for 26 years. Mrs. Griffin had lived in Rustburg, VA with her daughter and son-in-law for the past six years. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and held a variety of jobs while at different pastorates with the last being an administrator with the N.C. Department of Labor. She spent most of her life in ministry with her husband in N.C. and Virginia. She was active in music ministry by serving as a choir director, pianist, and soloist in the churches where they served. In addition, she was also active in children’s, youth, and varied missions ministries. Mrs. Griffin was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Rev. James A. Griffin, Sr., by her son: James A. “Scooter” Griffin, Jr. and by a brother: Robert Pruitt Smith.
She is survived by her daughter: Arlene Griffin Howard (Leon) of Rustburg, VA, her brother: Mabry Smith (Gayle) of Due West, SC, her grandchildren: James A. Griffin III, Matt Mason (Elizabeth), Ben Mason (Megan), and Landon Griffin (Catherine), her great grandchildren: Brayden Mason, Ryan Mason, Michael Mason, and Caitlin Palmer, as well as a host of loving nieces and nephews.
A special heartfelt thank you is given to Westminister Hospice, Lynchburg, Virginia for the care and support they provided to Mrs. Griffin during her last few weeks. Also, a special thank you to Spring Hill Community Church, Lynchburg, Virginia for the many special ways the members ministered to Mrs. Griffin, Arlene, and Leon during the last few years.
