Obituary: BETTY NEAL KNIGHT VERNON

Betty Neal Knight Vernon, 87, passed away to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 28, 2023.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Ellisboro Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may sign a register and pay their respects from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison.

Betty was born on February 28, 1936 to the late Joe Henry Neal and Betty Sherron Neal. A lifelong resident of Rockingham County, Betty worked as a beautician for over forty years. She enjoyed fishing (and always caught the most and largest fish), country music and going dancing with her girlfriends. Her favorite thing was spending time with family and friends; most especially her three grandsons.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, Raeford Knight and Walter Vernon; daughter, Rita Swinson and six brothers.

Survivors include her son, Ray Knight (Paula); grandchildren, Brian Knight (Vicki), Kevin Knight (Miranda) and Brock Swinson (Jess); son-in-law, Mike Swinson; three great-grand children, Harley, Stella and Zane; sister, Joanne Neal.

The family wishes to thank Blumenthal’s Nursing Home and Hospice for the care they gave her; and deep enduring gratitude to family and friends, especially Aunt Joanne.
