Betty, a native of Siloam, NC, was the daughter of Mallory Martin Crissman and Sheila Elizabeth Marion. She graduated from Appalachian Teachers College in 1963 where she received a BA in Mathematics Education. She spent most of her 30 year teaching career at Morehead High School in Eden, NC. Betty was well known for being an active member of her community. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Reidsville and served in many roles including teaching Sunday School and serving as the Director of the WMU. She was an avid gardener, and was a longtime member of the Woodrose Garden Club where she was famous for her knitted Christmas bells and pickled okra. For many years, Betty was the unofficial Water Aerobics instructor at the Reidsville YMCA. Betty also participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, which was very important to her as a cancer survivor. She also spent many holiday seasons volunteering with the Dan Valley Association’s “Toy Store” helping to provide a better Christmas for local families in need.

Betty’s favorite pastimes were birds, gardening and baking. The love she had for others always shined through in the breads and cakes she made from scratch. She shared her delicious sourdough rolls, friendship bread and lemon pound cake with all who knew her. She also decorated many birthday cakes for her beloved grandchildren. Many looked forward to gatherings in her home where her gift of hospitality showed through as she welcomed them like family.

Betty was known for being kind, generous, and welcoming to all. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing hymns. Nothing gave her more delight than the opportunity to help and encourage others. The joy she spread in the world will never be forgotten by those that love her. She will be deeply missed by her four beloved daughters: Andrea Fox (Buford) of Eden, Rosiland Jones (Jay) of Eden, Christina Wood (Chris) of Stoneville, and Kathryn Patterson (Alex) of Greensboro; ten grandchildren: Amber Fox, Zachary Fox (Colleen), Mallory Westman (Clay), Fortune Krause (Matt), Brock Fox (Taylor) Sierra Valder (Daniel), Jordan Wood, Micaela Patterson, Hannah Allen (Dylan), and Brenna Patterson; four great grandchildren: Theodore, Juliet, Sawyer, and Vivian; her brother: Junior Crissman of Siloam; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
