Betty Ann Grogan McKinney, 89, passed away peacefully at her home Thursday afternoon surrounded by her family.

Betty only ever worked one full-time job and that was at Washington Mills/Tultex for 44 years. She worked a part time job at McClain’s Mini Mart. She took early retirement to enjoy some traveling and shopping.

Betty took care of her father for the last 4 years of his life due to his diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. This enabled him to spend his final days at home and not at a nursing home. After his passing, she enjoyed spending time with her nieces, nephews and their children. She continued a family tradition of Sunday lunches and holidays that were always at her house.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Lincoln and Louise Grogan. Her sister, Claris Mae Grogan McClain, her brother in law, WIlliam “Bill” McClain and her great niece, Megan Lea McClain Moore.

Left to cherish her memory are her nieces and nephews who she claimed as her children. Machelle McClain of Eden, NC; Marcia M. Rhodes (James) of Madison, NC; Michael McClain of Winston-Salem, NC and Mark McClain (Jennifer) of Stoneville, NC. Her great nieces and nephews (which she considered her grandchildren) Brooke Rhodes, Morgan McClain, Khloie McClain, Brett Rhodes (Andrea) and Mason McClain (Brooke). Great-Great nieces and nephews; Marlee Moore, Mazikeen Rhodes, Maelea Robertson, Will Moore, Charlee Smith, Kaiden Moore and Marz McClain.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Amada Senior Care and especially Angela Lyons who took such good care of her during her final days at home. We are also so very thankful for the guidance, support and care from the entire staff at Ancora Compassionate Care.

On Sunday, October 20, 2024, the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at Christian View Pentecostal Holiness Church. A 3:00 p.m. funeral service will follow. Officiating the service will be Reverend Cas Horton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ancora Compassionate Care, P.O. Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.

Ray Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Betty McKinney and all are invited to share memories or offer condolences at www.rayfuneralhome.com
