Mrs. Bessie Pearl Cunningham Carter, age 78, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2025 at her residence.
Public viewing will begin on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 from 12 until 7 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Funeral Home, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.
The committal and interment will follow in St. Mariah United Holy Church Cemetery, Reidsville, NC.
Bessie was born Rockingham County, NC on December 22, 1946 to the late Willie Cunningham and Nancy Napper Cunningham.
She was educated in the local public schools.
Bessie was united in holy matrimony with Paul Carter who preceded her in death.
For many years, she was a member of St. Mariah United Holy Church where she formerly served in the choir.
She was very strong and independent and farmed for many years. She could do anything around her house and provided for her family. She loved her sisters and brothers.
Bessie enjoyed working in her yard and loved planting flowers.
Survivors include children, Laverne Cunningham, Sharon Carter, Victor Terrel Carter, Joe Wesley Carter and Billy Williamson Carter; sister, Bernice Lawson, 10 grandchildren, Felicia Carter, Stephanie Gaston, Cleveland Carter, Douglas Cunningham, Jaleehsa Philbert, Mya Simone Carter, Nina Malika Carter, Kierra Carter Dequan Harris, Tiana Carter; 15 great-grandchildren; a host of relatives and friends.
