Mr. Benjamin Vanlear Scott, affectionately known as “BenDen”, passed peacefully on Sunday, August 14, 2022 at Pelican Health Care, Reidsville, North Carolina. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Elm Grove Baptist Church, Business 29, Reidsville, NC.

Benjamin Scott and Evelyn Scott welcomed their only son, “Ben”, on September 18, 1954, in Reidsville, NC. Ben attended Reidsville Senior High School where he starred on the basketball team and the football team and was a proud alumnus of the Class of 1972. He had a love for creating and began to master his trade via the instruction of his uncle, Lonnie Golden, Sr. Ben was a master plasterer using his hands creatively, he grew his love for that into becoming a master in drywalling.

Later, he moved to Washington, DC where he met Lisa Baskerville. They welcomed a daughter, Nakihah and in 1985, he returned to Reidsville to live.

Ben had a bigger than life personality. He loved to be surrounded by friends and family. If he wasn’t making you laugh, you knew something was wrong. He loved to play chess and cards and was quite good at it.

In addition to his parents, Ben is preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Laverne Scott Moore; his brother-in-law, Samuel Edward Moore, Sr.; and his nephew, Samuel Moore, Jr.

Those left to cherish fond memories are his daughter, Nakihah Armstrong of Fort Washington, MD; his grandchildren Nyla Armstrong and Zaria Armstrong of Fort Washington, MD; his sisters, Jackie Scott of Greensboro, NC and Tonya Evans of Reidsville, NC; nephews, Ken Scott (Kim) of Waldorf, MD and Byren Evans of Greensboro, NC; nieces, Marcia Moore-Lyons (Howard) of Browns Summit, NC and Toren Evans of Reidsville, NC. He also leaves behind a host of cousins, extended family and friends.
