Basil “Mr. Bill” Bakis fell asleep in our Lord, November 7, 2023. Basil was born on November 15, 1946 in Kalamata, Greece. He was a member of St. Barbara’s Greek Orthodox Church in Durham, NC.
Mr. Bill was renowned for showcasing his love for people and his homeland Greece through the cuisine he served at Taverna Nikos. After he retired from the restaurant business, there was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with family and friends, his travels to Greece, and attending church services.
Basil is preceded in death by his parents, George and Adrianna Bakis; and brother-in-law, Nicholas Panas and a sister-in-law, Loukia Panas.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Bakis; children, George (Marie) Bakis, James (Thamie) Bakis; brother, Anthony (Helen) Bakis; grandchild, Nektaria Bakis; and brother-in-law, Peter Georgaras.
The funeral service will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at the Holy Monastery of Panagia Pammakaristos, 1115 St. Ephraim’s Way, Lawsonville, NC 27022.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Bill to the Holy Monastery of Panagia Pammakaristos.
