Ms. Annie Mae Galloway Broadnax departed this life on Monday morning, August 21, 2023.
Born on October 18, 1947 to Zenobi Porter Galloway and the late William D. Galloway in Rockingham County, North Carolina, she attended the local public schools and was a lifelong resident. Employed by Macfield, which years later under new management now known as Unifi. She was also employed by Cone Mills Corporation for years prior to Unifi. After so many years at Unifi, things began to change health wise. Even upon leaving there she was known to the older grandchildren for cooking them the things they loved to eat. She cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren and her significant other, a loved father and grandfather Lonnell Carter, known as “Paw Paw”. As time went on the vibrant mother, grandmother’s health began a downward spiral. Heart breaking to her children and grandchildren special caretaker, Tiffany (who we know loved her). For many years, the family chain was closely linked together. But oh! the chain is broken now. The main link is gone forever.
In addition to her father, a beloved husband, Willie Broadnax, Sr.; her oldest son, Willie Broadnax, Jr. (Ding); sisters, Mary Johnson and Shelia G. Williams; grandmother-in-law, Virginia Rone, preceded her in death. She leaves behind to cherish so many memories: her loving children, Christopher Broadnax (Linda), Zenobia I. Broadnax, April Broadnax and Benita Broadnax (Terry); her mother, Zenobi Galloway; her special grandchildren (who dearly loved her), Darin, Quinton, Dayquan, Marcus, Donjai, DaKeoven, Tyriq, Kennon and Brittany; a host of great-grandchildren (who called her “Granny Annie”); other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Noon Friday, August 25, 2023 in the chapel of Johnson & Sons with Elder James Leak presiding. Public viewing will be Thursday afternoon at Johnson & Sons, 115 Holderby Street.
