Anne James Shirah, 83, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Moses Cone Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Mt. Bethel Church. Interment will follow in the Liberty Wesleyan Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the church.
Mrs. Shirah was born on May 3, 1940 in Rockingham County to the late Buell Lee James and Hattie Lawson James. She was a member of Liberty Wesleyan Church and attended Mt. Bethel Church. Anne adored her canine companion, Daisy and will be remembered for her green thumb, her love of flowers and gardening, as well as watching and feeding birds. Her greatest joy came from her special grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Shirah and numerous siblings.
Survivors include her sons, Dennis Darnell (Debbie) and Rickey Darnell; grandchildren, Allyson Wilson (Chris) and Dusty Darnell (Sarah); great-grandchildren, Syler Wilson, Callyn Wilson, Maddox Darnell and Eleanor Darnell and sister, Shelby Paschal.
