Obituary: ALVIN WAYNE TAYLOR

Alvin Wayne Taylor, 78, of Kannapolis passed away Sunday, August 11, 2024 at Big Elm Rehabilitation Center with his family by his side. Alvin fought a six-year battle against pancreatic cancer. Alvin, better known as Al, was born August 24, 1945, in Rockingham County, NC to the late Robert Edward Taylor and Grace Willis Taylor.

He was a graduate of Morehead High School, class of 1963. He worked at Pillowtex (formerly Fieldcrest Cannon Mills) as an Industrial Engineer for almost 40 years until his retirement in 2003. Al continued his education after retirement completing numerous college courses at Rowan Cabarrus Community College.

Al was a devoted, loving Christian man accepting Christ and being baptized at an early age. He served in the roles of elder, deacon, and treasurer at Holly Hills Christian Church of Eden, NC; Northside Christian Church of Columbus, GA; and Rowan Christian Church, of Salisbury, NC. The last years of his life he faithfully attended online church following Ed Bousman Evangelistic Association (GIJAPA) of Lynchburg, OH, InTouch Ministries of Atlanta, GA and World Outreach Church of Murfreesboro, TN.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Al enjoyed various hobbies to keep his intelligent mind preoccupied. He thoroughly enjoyed using computers and computer programs, HAM radio, researching and recording family history, and tracking weather information with his home weather station.

He is best known for his compassionate heart towards friends and strangers alike, both near and far. He never missed a chance to make someone smile with his witty sense of humor. He loved his pets especially his beloved cat Callie, his grand dogs Ashley, Hershey, Pixie, and his nephew dog Lou.

Al will be missed and forever loved by many, but now rejoices with Jesus in Heaven as a true and faithful servant of God. Surviving are his sons, Brian Michael Taylor (girlfriend – Charlene Vogler) of Salisbury, NC; Jerald “Jerry” Wayne Taylor of Eden, NC; former daughter in law Julie Taylor of Mooresville, NC; brother, Edward “Ed” Ray Taylor (Janie) of Southern Pines, NC; brother-n-law, Bill Manuel of Piney Flatts, TN; grandchildren, Casey Taylor and Shannon McKinney, both of Eden, NC; and a great granddaughter, Drayton Church of Eden, NC. In addition to his parents Alvin is preceded in death by his former wife, Mary Jane Rutledge and Sister, Mary Frances Manuel.

A funeral service will be held at Fair Funeral Home in Eden, NC on Saturday, August 24th at 2 pm. Graveside service and burial will follow at the Martin/Willis/Haley Family Cemetery in Axton, VA. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 1 pm.
