It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Alex Aikens Coleman, age 86, on November 14, 2023 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Alex was born February 1, 1937 in Reidsville, North Carolina to Willie Coleman and Annie Aikens Coleman.
Alex was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine Troxler Coleman and his sister Edna Atwater. He is survived by his children Jamal Coleman, LaDonna Lopez, John Coleman and William Coleman; grandchildren Kalila Coleman, Melissa Ortiz, and Great Granddaughter Malexus Coleman; in addition to several beloved great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Alex was a member of the Booker T Washington High School Hall of Fame. He retired from Kimble’s Glass after 30+ years of employment. Alex was an active member of Poplar Grove Church.
Alex had many hobbies and interests including being a talented vocalist and supporter the North Carolina Education Lottery. He enjoyed listening to the Oldies Music, watching various sports, and telling stories about his wife and family.
A memorial service will be held on November 25 at 11:00am at Triad Cremation & Funeral Service at Servomation Road in Greensboro, North Carolina. We are thankful to the church members that held communion with Alex in his home while he was unable to attend in person. We extend thanks to everyone for helping to honor Alex’s wishes for privacy in his last days.
Alex “Pop Pop” will be remembered for his kind heartedness, sense of humor and quick wit that brought joy to those around him throughout his life. We will miss him dearly but take comfort knowing he is now reunited with his beloved wife Geraldine Troxler Coleman in heaven.
