Obituary: ALBERT “TATER” RICHARD BARBER






Albert “Tater” Richard Barber, 16, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, July 16, 2023 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Josh Patterson officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service and other times at the home, 181 Kendrick Lane, Ruffin, NC.

Tater had lived in Rockingham County since the 4th grade and prior to that lived in Alamance County. He was a rising Junior at Rockingham County High School and was very active in the ROTC. He worked part-time with Joyner Body Shop and Randall Williams Plumbing. He loved sports and his favorite teams were, NC State, the Ravens and Atlanta Braves. He was always there to help others and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gaming. He loved his family and was not ashamed to be a “Mama’s Boy”!

He is survived by his mother, Maggie Perdue and husband, Joshua; fathers, Josh Owen and wife, Britney and Paul Barber; step brother, Cooper Grayson Owen; step sisters, Shelly Perdue Fuqua, Araina Layne Taylor and Kennedy Ann Owen; grandparents, Peggy and Floyd Lowery; great aunt, Barbara Smithey; great uncles, John and Charles Lowery; uncles, Randall Williams and Stanley Gross; aunts, Tara “Aunt TT” Worley, Marla Inherst and Christy Crihfield; special cousins, Jayzmin Wright, Layla, Latney, Lane and Lawrence Worley, Jacob and Dylan Gross.

The family requests that when attending the funeral and visitation, please do not dress up, but rather wear blue jeans and a shirt in his favorite color, red.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Wilkerson Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
