(Eden, NC) – A mural was unveiled on Thursday, September 7, 2023 celebrating Eden, & Spray Native Lieutenant Commander USN Conrad “Gus” Shinn. Shin was the First Pilot to land a plane at the South Pole, a feat that he accomplished on October 31, 1956, as a member of the Antartic Expedition Team “Operation Deep Freeze”
