Michael Sands Hired As New Town of Stoneville Administrator

(Stoneville, NC) – The Town of Stoneville, NC has hired Michael Sands, a Stokes County native, to serve as the Town Administrator.

The following is a bio of Michael Sands supplied by the Town of Stoneville . . .

My name is Michael Sands, and it is my pleasure to introduce myself as the Town Administrator for the Town of Stoneville, NC. Growing up in Stokes County my entire life, I graduated from South Stokes High School in 1990 and continued my education at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. I graduated in 1994 with a degree in Middle Grades Education and began a career as an educator teaching sixth through eighth grade in the areas ofmathematics, science, and social studies. After teaching for eight years, I went back to graduate school and obtained a Master’s in School Administration from Appalachian State University and a Specialist in Education degree from UNCG. Upon completion of my master’s degree, I accepted a position as an assistant principal, serving in both an elementary and high school setting. The last seventeen years of my career were spent serving Stokes County Schools in their Central Office where I was the district Accountability, Federal Programs, and ESL Director. During my time at the Central Office, I developed skills of public relations, collaboration, grant writing, consulting, and data analysis. I hope to be able to use these skills to enhance and improve the services provided to the citizens of Stoneville. I retired with thirty years of creditable service from the public schools in 2024.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and my dog. In addition to my parents, I have two sisters that provided me with two nieces, Amanda and Katelyn, and a nephew, Mark. I have a chihuahua named Coco and love to sit and play with her. I also enjoy spending time serving my church, New Hope Baptist Church in Walnut Cove, where I am the church secretary, treasurer, and Sunday School teacher for the teenage class as well as a member of the church choir. I like to dabble in gardening, cooking, and researching the genealogy of my family when time permits.

Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns that I may be able to answer. I can be reached at the Stoneville Town Hall offices.
