Inmate At Rockingham County Detention Facility Dies From Apparent Suicide

(Wentworth, NC) – At around 4:20 p.m. this afternoon (March 25, 2024), while performing routine inmate checks, Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office Detention Officers found that an inmate had attempted to take her own life. Immediate medical assistance was rendered by Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office Detention Officers and Emergency Medical Personnel; however, the inmate died as a result of her apparent self-inflicted injury. The inmate was in a cell by herself at the time she was found.
At Sheriff Sam Page’s request, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NC SBI) has been contacted to investigate this death. As this is now an NC SBI investigation, identification of the inmate and/or any additional questions related to this News Release should be directed to the NC SBI.
