EPD: Morehead Student Facing Firearm Charges Following Investigation

(Eden, NC) – On Monday, September 30th 2024, The Eden Police Department received information that a 17-year-old student of Morehead High School had a gun in their possession while at school.  The Eden Police Department was made aware of the incident after school hours.

A thorough investigation of the incident was completed and Investigators consulted with the Rockingham County District Attorney’s Office. Juvenile petitions were obtained and the juvenile was placed in secure custody, prior to midnight on September 30th.  The juvenile has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Firearm on Educational Property.
  • Possession of a Firearm as a Minor
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon

Information about the juvenile charged cannot be disclosed under North Carolina law.

At this time, the investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released.
