Monique Smalls to oversee communications initiatives for the health system
Greensboro- Cone Health leader Monique Smalls has been promoted to the new role of vice president, communications for Cone Health.
In this role, Smalls will lead the teams responsible for internal, external, executive, crisis management and corporate events communications strategies and plans. She will also develop and implement communications strategies for business partnerships and long-range strategic planning.
Since joining Cone Health in early 2023, Smalls has served as director, marketing and communications for people and culture. Previously, she was the director, talent communications at Novant Health and director, executive communications at Labcorp.
Preceding those roles, Smalls also worked in corporate communications at the global pharmaceutical company Novartis and public relations at LHWH Advertising & PR. She began her career as a business reporter and columnist for The Sun News, Myrtle Beach’s daily newspaper, for which she received awards from the S.C. Press Association for business and lifestyle reporting.
Smalls graduated with distinction with her master’s degree in global strategic communication from the University of Florida and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with her bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
