Joseph Hill will oversee DEI and culture efforts for the system

Greensboro- Joseph Hill has been appointed as the Cone Health Chief Culture, Equity, and Belonging Officer.

In this role, Hill will focus on elevating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, strengthening alignment with the Cone Health Center for Health Equity, and overseeing strategic programs related to the organization’s culture.

Hill brings more than two decades of leadership in DEI work, having experience with major health care systems and global organizations.

For the last few years, Hill has been a managing partner of a consultancy that provided leadership counsel and overseen DEI, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and community engagement projects for a variety of U.S. and South African organizations. Prior to that, he served as senior vice president and chief diversity officer at Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health. There he oversaw DEI efforts across 14 hospitals with 40,000 employees and 8,000 students. Other experience includes serving as the vice president and chief diversity officer at Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin. 

Hill holds a Master of Arts in Public History from Howard University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History from Virginia Union University. He also earned a Certificate in Diversity Healthcare Management from Georgetown University.
