Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office News Release • August 9, 2024 • Lt. K. Suthard, PIO
[Rockingham County, N.C.]—On Thursday, August 9, 2024, at around 7:26 p.m., Rockingham County Sheriff’s Deputies, Williamsburg Fire Department, Reidsville and Eden Rescue Squads, Rockingham County EMS and other Rockingham County first responders were dispatched to 277 Clearwater Lane, Brown Summit, N.C. on a report that a tree had fallen on a mobile home.
Sadly, upon their arrival, first responders discovered 78-year-old Hilda Windsor Jones had been inside the home when the tree fell and was killed as a result. There was no one else in the house at the time, and it is believed that the tree fell due to weather from the remnants of Hurricane Debby.
Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page and all of us at the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the family and loved ones of Hilda Jones in the wake of this tragedy.
