Obituary: GARY STANLEY PURDY

Gary Stanley Purdy, 71, left this earthly life on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Bald Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home and all other times at the residence.

Mr. Purdy was born on December 20, 1950 in Rockingham County to the late Lewis Earl Purdy and Mary Thompson Purdy. He worked for 220 Trucking and Sefa and following retirement he worked part-time at the Stokes County Trash Site. Mr. Purdy enjoyed riding around town, working on cars, spending time in his garage and collecting old cars and most importantly, spending time with his beloved family.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy Tilley Purdy; brothers, Larry Purdy and Kenneth Purdy and paternal grandparents, Joe and Edna Purdy.

Survivors include his sons, Gary Jamie Purdy (Tabitha), Charles Kenneth Purdy (Angie) and Tyler Elijah Purdy (Brittney); daughters, Angela Louann Weavill (Jason) and Tammy Mae Smith (Derick); grandchildren, Nicole Stanley, Justin Purdy, Bradley Purdy, Matthew Strader, Travis Strader, Alexis Goins, Daisy Goins, Cody Purdy, Karlie Purdy, Marlena Parker, Kaley Purdy Little, Jamie Purdy, Brianna Purdy, Joe Murphy and Tommy Murphy; great-grandchildren, Brian Purdy, Christine Purdy, Malena Purdy, Bradley Purdy JR, Josiah Lizardi, Lucas Tucker, Iris Strader and Maddie Stanley; nieces, Carrie West, Sandra Sapp, Shannon Mcadams, Donna Bullins, Aretha Hutchins and Tina Stewart; nephews, Steven Purdy, Chad Purdy, Lucas Purdy, Noel Tilley and Matthew Tilley and brother, Steve Purdy (Lucy) and sister, Debbie Deane.

The family wishes to thank Heather and the staff of Amedisys Hospice, Burlington, for their wonderful care.
