Rockingham County Department of Emergency Services Press Release • April 2, 2025
(Wentworth, NC) – With the rain that we have had in the last 24 hours, the drought conditions in our county have greatly improved. As a result of this improvement, the Rockingham County Fire Marshal, Melissa Joyce is rescinding the burn ban that was put into place on Friday, March 21, 2025.
The Rockingham County Fire Marshal, advises, “Outdoor debris burning in Rockingham County is permitted.” This order includes but is not limited to, leaves, branches, debris, and other natural vegetation. In all cases, it is illegal to burn trash, lumber, tires, newspaper, plastics, or other nonvegetative materials.
The Rockingham County Fire Marshal would like to express her gratitude to the citizens of this county for their compliance with the burn ban while it was in effect.
Municipalities have their own burning regulations that apply within the city limits and within their Extra Territorial Jurisdictions (ETJ)
