Obituary: JAMES CLYDE LAWSON

James “Clyde” Lawson, 90, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Friday, October 18, 2024, at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection, Stuart, VA.

Clyde was born on November 22, 1933, in Stokes County, to the late James Lemiley Lawson and Edith Mabe Lawson.

He retired from the U.S. Army (Aviation Division) as a First Segreant with 22 years of service. Clyde served three tours in Vietnam and was awarded many citations and awards to include two Bronze Stars, The Air Medal and The Meritorious Service Medal. After an honorable discharge from the military, Clyde worked within the mobile home industry and served on the North Carolina Board of Insurance for two terms. Clyde finished his working career serving as a Deputy Sheriff with the Stokes County Sheriff’s Office.

Clyde was a long-time member of Peter’s Creek Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Juiet Lawson.

Clyde is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Lisa Lawson, of Roanoke Rapids, NC; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and John Cothran, of Mountain Rest, SC; grandchildren, Jamie Rivera (Patrick), Eli Cothran (Maddie), and Henley Cothran; and a great-grandson, Cohen Rivera.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the Lawson Family Cemetery, Danbury, N.C., with military honors.
