Russell Kenneth Martin, 82, of Reidsville, North Carolina passed away peacefully on October 17, 2024, at Gibson Hospice House. He was born on January 4, 1942, to the late Russell Joseph and Mildred Martin.

A visitation will be held on October 21, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home, 1909 Richardson Drive, Reidsville, NC. Followed by a memorial service at 6:00 p.m., in the chapel of Wilkerson Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Phil Surrett.

Russell proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, and that shaped his strong sense of duty and commitment to those around him. After his military service, he returned to Reidsville, where he found joy in farming, raising cows, and attending family gatherings, often seen riding his tractor through the fields.

He is remembered fondly for his warm spirit, and nurturing love of family that defined his life. He leaves behind his daughter, Lori Shambley(Ronald); son, Scott Martin; brother, Frank Martin; sister, Carolyn Chappell; and his partner, Gayle Rakestraw. Russell also adored his grandchildren, Brittany Evans(Rodney), Briana Shambley, Ryan Martin, and Taylor Shambley, and had the immeasurable joy of being a great-grandfather to Tyler Evans and Reese Evans; as well as stepdaughters, Tina Hanks(Barry), and Tonya Wyrick(Carl); stepsons, Jimmy Ore(Debbie), Lynwood Ore(Mandy), and Todd Ore(Tonya); and 15 step grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Griffin, whose memory he cherished. The love and values he instilled in his family will carry on in the hearts of all who knew him.

As we celebrate Russell’s life and remember the many cherished moments he shared with his family and friends, he will be deeply missed. His spirit and love for life will remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
