Obituary: JERRY EDWARD RIERSON, SR

Jerry Edward Rierson, Sr., 73, died on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at his home.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Knollhurst Memorial Gardens with Reverend Michael Barber officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison and all other times at 7061 NC Hwy 704, Madison.

Mr. Rierson was born on September 24, 1951 in Rockingham County to the late Herbert Edward Rierson and Bernice Jane Essick Rierson. Jerry was an avid collector of lawnmowers and tractors. For many years, he proudly hauled NASCAR cars for legendary drivers like Richard Petty and Kevin Harvick. Jerry also had a career working for Oshkosh Trucking, Triad Mack and Suburban Sanitation. His legacy of hard work, passion and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis “Ann” Bartkas Rierson and daughter, Leslie Ann Rierson.

Survivors include his son, Jerry “Buddy” Rierson, Jr. (Misti); grandchildren, Cheyenne Turpin (Wade), Jade Marshall (Dustin), Mack Rierson (Logan) and Mitch Rierson (Rebecca); great-grandchildren, Hope, Emberlyn, Rosealyn, Finlee, Ava, Korra, Lilith and Huxlee; sisters, Wanda Collins (Ray), Brenda Snider and Lynn Rierson (Barry Hartman); mother of his children, Ann Joyce; special friends, Dale Frost and Rick Holiday and beloved canine companion, Woofie.
