Obituary: OLENE LASTER GIBBS

Olene Gibbs, 85, of Reidsville, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Jacob’s Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Rock of Ages Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Bray officiating. Her burial will follow at Reidlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 7th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at 155 Clark Lake Road.

Olene was born in Rockingham County to the late John Henry Laster and Lucy Mae Perdue Laster. She was a sweet and precious soul, devoted Christian, wife, mother and Granny. She was a long-time member of Rock of Ages Baptist Church and loved Jesus and her church family like her own. Olene loved the simple things in life, beautiful flowers, bird watching, animals, gospel music, and fishing, especially at the coast. She was a true fan of the New York Yankees watching games with family and was very proud that she was able to attend a game. It was apparent that she loved her family and was available anytime needed, that also extended to others.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Gibbs; sons, Dale and David Gibbs; brothers, James and Lee Laster; sisters, Dorothy Murphy, Stella Carter and Elsie White; grandson, Little David; and beloved canine companion, Alex.

She is survived by her children, Rhonda Barker, Wes Gibbs and wife Teresa, and Timmy Gibbs; grandchildren, Jeremy Barker, Joshua Barker, Chris Gibbs, Wes Gibbs, Zach Gibbs, Emiley Stowe, Lacey and Jamie Gibbs; great grandchildren, Carina, Barrett, Henry, Alex, Noah, Emma and A.J Barker, Jacob, Lilly and Easton Stowe, Benson and Maggie Adkins, J.J. Gibbs, Jacob and Jeremiah Jackson.
