Juvenile Petitions Secured Against A Student Following Threats of Mass Violence Against Morehead High School

(Eden, NC) – On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, The Eden Police Department received information about threats made to Morehead High School.  The Eden Police Department Investigation Division began looking into the threats towards Morehead High School, made by a student via text thread to other students.

As a result of this investigation, The Eden Police Department Investigation Division learned that the juvenile student who made the threats was a student of Morehead High School.  After a thorough investigation and consulting with the Rockingham County District Attorney’s Office, the information was relayed to The North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice to obtain a juvenile petition against the responsible minor for Communicating Threats of Mass Violence Against Educational Property.

Information about the juvenile charged cannot be disclosed under North Carolina law.

At this time, the investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released.
