Obituary: SHIRLEY TRENT POWELL PIERCE

Shirley Trent Powell Pierce, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and stepmother, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2024, at her home with her family around her.

A visitation will be held at 2pm on Saturday, September 21st, 2024, at Wilkerson Funeral Home followed by the Funeral at 3pm with Pastor Danny Chatham officiating. The burial will follow at Greenview Cemetery.

Preceding her in death was her first husband Herman Powell and second husband, Bobby Pierce; her son, Paul Powell; stepson, Roger Pierce; and her grandchildren, Nadia Al-Qimlass, Justin Powell, and Christy Cook. Shirley was also preceded in death by all five of her siblings.

Born and raised in Rockingham County, she was the daughter of Posey Lester Trent and Merkle Elizabeth Jones.

Shirley is survived by children, Phillip Powell (Wendy), Mark Powell (Karen), Lisa Powell (Waleed), and Shay Johnson (Mark), and the loving stepmother to David Pierce and Wendy Cook. She was a cherished grandmother to Paul Lee Powell Jr., Brandon Powell, Erin Powell, Patricia Pierce, Erica Stratford, Nurah Al-Al-Qimlass, Trent Powell, Aisha Al-Qimlass, Chris Powell, Josh Pierce, Drew Pierce, Alia Al-Qimlass Noah Johnson, Colby Johnson, Ayden Johnson, and Sarah Cook. Shirley also leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren who will carry on her memory.

After her first marriage, Shirley showed immense strength and resilience, raising her children with love and dedication as a single mother. Then meeting and marrying Bobby Pierce, their family grew with the addition of Shay Johnson. Shirley was known for her extraordinary cooking skills, especially her butter cakes, which became a family favorite. Her greatest passion, however, was her family, whom she loved fiercely. She was the pillar of strength and the glue that held everyone together.

Shirley’s family invites all who knew her to remember and celebrate her life and the love she shared with those around her.
