Obituary: ROBERT ANDERSON FARMER, JR

Andy’s days were in God’s Hands, on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, his life on this earthly plane ended. He passed from time to eternity.

Robert Anderson Farmer, Jr. was born on May 14, 1946 to Robert Anderson (Pete) Farmer and Eulalia Bullins Farmer, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by a special niece, Luci Ore Collins.

Those left behind include his family: Penny Roberts Farmer, wife of fifty years; Abby Farmer Haas and husband, Peter; Jessy Farmer Flanery and husband, Matt; grandchildren, Susan Olivia Haas, McCrae Anderson Flanery, Penelope Grace Haas and Ian Roberts Flanery. Andy’s family was dear to him; he reveled in their love.

Other survivors include a sister, Jean Farmer Cure; sisters-in-law, Connie Brown, Jackie Roberts, and Lisa Ore; brother-in-law, Billy Roberts and wife, Lynn. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and their extended families. At various stages in their lives, Andy enjoyed sharing time with them as a playmate, a jokester, a hiking and canoeing guide, a golf partner, a hunting buddy, and a snuggler.

Additional survivors include an aunt, Teeny Vernon; an uncle, Chuck Bullins; several cousins, and many friends. Among them are a life-long friend, Lynn Vernon, and a close friend and pastor, Bruce Martin.

Andy enjoyed a special relationship with two important people in his life. He soaked up the wisdom and camaraderie of his deceased father-in-law, Ralph Roberts. With his mother-in-law, Susie Roberts, Andy shared their mutual love of laughter and nature.

Andy was a graduate of Madison-Mayodan High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and felt honored to be an American. He attended Reality Church and was most thankful to be called a child of God.

The family will be having a private graveside service on Sunday September 22, 2024. A memorial service for Andy will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to any of the following: The American Diabetic Association, Reality Church or Wounded Warriors Project.
