Obituary: GREY RICE SMITH

Grey Rice Smith, 83, surrounded by her family, went to be with the Lord Saturday September 14, 2024 at Moses Cone Hospital Greensboro, NC

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday September 19, 2024 at Camp Springs Community Church with her nephew David Vernon and Rev. Russell McKinney officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will see friends 5:00 till 8:00 PM Wednesday September 18, 2024 at Camp Springs Community Church and at other times at the home of her daughter Cynthia Wrenn 552 Milesville Rd. Elon, NC

A native of Caswell County, she was a daughter of the late Stephen N. and Sadie Pegram Rice and had lived in Caswell County most of her life. Grey was brought up to work hard and never hesitated to help others. She had a kind and giving heart that she displayed throughout her life. She was a member of Christian Fellowship Church. Some of her hobbies included basket making, sewing and flower gardening. She enjoyed cooking, especially making her famous fried apple pies, for open house each year for Century Farm Orchards. Grey was a constant prayer warrior for her family and friends. She was the definition of a True Southern Christian Lady. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son: Mark I. Smith, and her sisters: Betty R. Cobb, Martha R. Hamlett, and Kathleen R. Aldridge.

Survivors include her daughters: Cynthia S. Wrenn (Joey) of Elon, Betty M. Smith of Reidsville, her sister: Janice R. Vernon (Cyrus) of Yanceyville, grandchildren: Laura W. Steele (Patrick), and Will S. Wrenn (Brittany) both of Elon, great grandchildren: Nolan Steele and Elliott Steele and a number of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
