Obituary: DANNY LEON SIMMONS, SR

Danny Leon Simmons, Sr., the beloved husband of Juanita Wilson Simmons, departed this life on Tuesday morning, July 12, 2022. 

As a native of Stokes County, North Carolina, he attended Stokes High School and was a resident of Rockingham County for the majority of his life.  Spiritually, he was a faithful member of Disciples of Christ Ministries where he served on the Usher Board.  Pursuing many paths of vocation, he was formerly employed by Lowe’s Home Improvement, Parkdale-American Corporation, Hanes Packaging and Maintenance at West End Plaza.  During his leisure, he enjoyed socializing and playing cards. 

His parents, Lessie Carter Simmons and Robert Simmons; siblings, Roger Carter, Robert Carter, Randy Simmons and Lonnie Simmons, preceded him in death. 

Survivors are: beloved wife, Juanita Wilson Simmons; children, Raymond Galloway (Kristie), LaShaunda Lee, Danny Leon Simmons, II (Kamika), Jahmai Seth Williams, Shaunta Lashae Jones (Eddie) and Sydne’ Lynette Simmons; 15 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sister, Rev. Patricia Gaines (Louis); brothers, Charles Carter and James Simmons; sisters-in-law, Bonita Walters (Michael), Jeanette Hairston, Tiffany Cox (Gordon) and Hope Hairston; brothers, Raymond Hairston (Mika), Jeffery Hairston (Tonya) and Gregory Hairston (Kim); special cousins, Keith Simmons and Rev. Michael Simmons; other relatives and friends. 

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 2022 from the chapel of Johnson & Sons, 115 Holderby Street with Pastor Michael Wilson presiding and Pastor Michael Simmons, as the eulogist.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.  Public viewing will be Friday afternoon at Johnson & Sons.
