Norbert “Leon” Murray, 76, of Ridgeway passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm Friday, August 9, 2024 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel in Eden with burial to follow at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 5-7pm and one hour prior to the service at Fair Funeral Home.

Leon was born March 15, 1948, the son of the late Norbert Murray and Margaret Hayden of Eden. He was raised by his paternal grandparents, Bradley and Cleo Murray.

Leon worked at Karastan Rug Mill for 23 years before opening his own business, Murray’s Auto Sales, which was a successful car business for more than 36 years. He was a member of Love Thy Neighbor Baptist Church.

Leon was an avid collector of cars. Mostly antiques and hot rods. In his lifetime, he owned over 300 beautiful cars and could remember details about every one of them. He had a vast knowledge of any car you put in front of him. Along with his love for cars, he loved traveling. Leon and Eunice traveled every chance they got. They loved traveling with their friends or just each other. They loved going to the mountains, Gatlinburg, and especially Florida. Leon and Eunice drove to Florida every November and stayed the week of their wedding anniversary.

Leon loved his two children, five grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren more than anything in the world. But nothing, and I mean absolutely NOTHING could compare to the love he felt for his wife. When his wife went to be with the Lord nine years ago on August 7, 2015, he lost the biggest part of who he was. He didn’t know how to live without her. They had been together since he was 17 and she was 16. Everyday was a struggle for him, he was never really happy after he lost Eunice. Then came August 6, 2024. God decided it was time to bring them together again. When Leon took his last breath on Earth I knew at that moment he was FINALLY happy again. With Jesus and the Love of his life.

Surviving are his children, Arlene Murray Wade and James Leon Murray, Sr; grandchildren, Justin Scott Case (Stephanie), Kristin Brooke Kennedy (Brian), James Leon Murray, Jr., Tiffany Blake Dillion, Bradlee Roy Franklin Murray, Sr.; great-grandchildren, James Leon Murray, III, Bradlee Roy Franklin Murray, Jr., Bentley James Edward Murray, Avery Brooke Kennedy, Savanna Grace Murray, Adleigh Brynn Kennedy, Margaret Amelia Case, Mattis Alexander Case, Emmaline Sophia Case, Mason Lee Murray; and three sisters.

In addition to his parents, Leon is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Eunice Curry Murray; brother, Herman Jackson “Butch” Murray.

The family would like to extend a huge thank you to his caretaker, Megan B. Roberts. He loved his “Morgan”.
