Gunman Enters Stokesdale Industrial Jobsite, Assaults Three Former Coworkers

(Wentworth, NC) – On Monday, June 24, 2024, at around 8:30 a.m., Rockingham County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Ontex, an industrial plant located at 9300 NC-65, Stokesdale, N.C., in response to reported assaults that had occurred at the site.

Upon their arrival, Deputies learned that JUAN ANTONIO POLANCO-FRIAS, a former employee of CK Steel, a company contracted to do work at Ontex, had unknowingly entered the job site where he then waited on the arrival of three former coworkers of CK Steel.

Upon the arrival of the three former coworkers, POLANCO-FRIAS confronted them and brandished a firearm. POLANCO-FRIAS proceeded to beat one of the individuals with an extension cord, then pointed the gun at that individual and made him beat the other two with the extension cord, threatening to shoot them if they did not comply. POLANCO-FRIAS then fled the scene, and the assaulted individuals called 9-1-1 for assistance.

JUAN ANTONIO POLANCO-FRIAS, 36, of 2075 Cedar Rd. Lot 33 Asheboro, N.C., was located and taken into custody later in the day by the Asheboro Police Department on three counts of False Imprisonment, three counts of Communicating Threats, and three counts of Assault, Inflicting Serious Injury in connection with the incident that occurred at Ontex. Asheboro Police also charged POLANCO-FRIAS with Possession of Methamphetamine, and he had a number of outstanding other arrest warrants out of Randolph County upon his arrest.

JUAN ANTONIO POLANCO-FRIAS was placed in the Randolph County Detention Facility under an $11,000 secured bond. The three assault victims are expected to recover from their injuries. Their names are not being released due to safety concerns.
