Candice Vontina Mitchell was born April 26, 1990 in Rockingham County to the late Vaughntino Verlane Hayes and Lydia Cheryl Anderson. She gained her heavenly wings on Sunday, July 3, 2022.

A 1:00 p.m. Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at the First Baptist Church of Mayodan with Bishop William Phillips presiding.

She graduated in 2009 from McMichael High School, in Mayodan, NC and furthered her education by attending Job Corps and Rockingham Community College. She was accepted into the North Carolina School for the Blind and participated in their classes. She was well known for her outgoing personality, conspiracy theories, playing sports, doing natural hair and singing. For those who knew her well, do you recall her conspiracy theories and keen words? Candice was fierce about her family, especially her siblings Josh and Alanie, had a passion for children and a special heart for older people. Candice had many health challenges, and yet, they did not stop her. She had issues, but the largest hurdle was the loss of her eye sight. Although, her sight was severely limited, she aspired to live independently and did for many years. She continued to dress trendy from hat to shoes and always had jewelry to match. Love and passion describes Candice. She gave love and she was loved, immeasurably. Her maternal grandparents, the late Mike and Beulah Mitchell played a foundational role in her formative years. She could often be found with her grandmother, Beulah, tending to her wishes and cooking for her. Throughout her life, her special Aunt, Micheala Jones supported her and loved her unconditionally, until the end. She continued to love by becoming an organ donor. Through her selfless donation, she gave the gifts of sight, bone marrow and numerous other tissues to help others have a better quality of life.

She leaves to cherish her memories: mother, Cheryl Anderson (Steve), of Danville, VA; late father, Vaughntino Hayes; sisters, Alanie Anglero (Eddie) of Reidsville, Hannah Anderson of Charlottesville, VA; MarQuitta Rucker of Greensboro, NC; brother Josh Hayes of Madison, NC, and grandparents, Mary Martin of Madison, NC; Leroy Hayes; aunts, Tiffany (Craven) of Sandston, VA, Porscha Hayes of Lexington Park, MD, Fatima Hayes, of Greensboro, NC; uncles, Tony Mitchell (Shekina) of Winston-Salem, NC and Stephon Hayes (Kim) of Greensboro, NC; nieces, Hope, A’lani; her nephews, Zhi’Yaun, Landon, Chosen and Julian; honorary sisters, Brittney Mitchell of Sandston, VA and many special cousins and friends.
