Obituary: KATHERINE “KATHY” A. EAST GAGNE

Katherine “Kathy” A. East Gagne,70, went home to Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, when God called her home on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.

Kathy’s Celebration of Life service will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 11, 2023, at The Refuge, 213 S. 2nd Avenue, Mayodan, NC with the Reverend Donovan Furstenberg and Reverend Jerri Atkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until the time of the Celebration of Life service.

Kathy was born at home in Rockingham County, on August 15, 1953, to the late George Pate East and Louvie Jane Kappell East. Kathy was a member of The Refuge in Mayodan where she served on the Church Board for 10 years, served as Director of the Nursery for 20 years, served as a Greeter, served on the Finance Committee and served on the Board of Trustees. Kathy worked as a Legal Assistant at Boydoh & Hale, PLLC in Greensboro until she retired in June of 2021, and had loved working in the legal profession since 1979.

In addition to both her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Hanes East and a sister, Linda Jean East Blackard.

Survivors include her devoted husband, Norman, of 50 years, son, Jason Michael Gagne of Savannah, Georgia; brothers, George P. East, Jr. (Myrna), Ralph D. East (Patricia), C. Raymond East (Judy), Herman F. East (Linda), Harold J. East (Linda), Michael W. East, and Jerry L. East (Jona); and sisters, Irene E. Hicks (Larry), Earlene Wilson Lockhart, Doris E. Bullins (Avery), Marie E. Priddy (Carlton), and Carolyn E. Smith, and numerous loving nieces and nephews all who Kathy loved dearly, and Kathy’s special kitty, Ms. April.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Kathy’s memory to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28608-3000, or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105-3678.

The family would like to thank everyone who participated in taking care of Kathy, especially the wonderful Hospice nurses and caretakers.
