Dorothy Heck Crews, 87, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.
The family will receive friends and family from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Beaver Island Baptist Church, 3111 Ayersville Rd, Mayodan with the funeral service to follow at 12 p.m. After the service there will be a brief (family only) graveside gathering at the Beaver Island Baptist Church Cemetery.
Dorothy was born on April 24th, 1936 in Fincastle, Virginia to the late Howard Bernard Heck, Sr. and Bessie Mae Wade Heck. Dorothy served her community as a Registered Nurse, but her real passion was sharing the love of Jesus, especially with children. As well as serving as a devoted Pastor’s wife, she directed the children’s ministry at Woodbine Baptist Church for many years. She was a member of the Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) and served her Savior by singing in a gospel trio, teaching a women’s Sunday school class, holding Bible studies during her lunch hour when she worked at Washington Mills, and holding summer ‘Good News Clubs’ for neighborhood children. She took great joy in her her family; her husband, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Janice Gore and brothers, Elbert Rodney Heck and Donald Wade Heck.
Surviving Dorothy is her husband, James “Jim” Crews; daughters, Amanda (Randy) Frederick, Annette (Richard) Rumley and Anita (Randall) Hawkins, as well as 9 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; brother, Howard Bernard Heck, Jr. (Linda) and sisters, Nancy Heck Cash, Betty Lou Heck Looney, and JoAnne Heck Jayne.
